A patent for Optimized Electrical Impedance Tomography

was co-developed by Van der Lee and approved as US 2023/0081541 A1. The patent describes 2D tomography with maximum resolution and minimal measurements.

Mars shows diverse faulting styles

possibly related to volcano-tectonic activity in a large region south of Elysium Mons Volcano, according to research by former CIERA REU student Madelyn Sita.

New seismic stations installed in Uganda

A. Kabanda was part of the NU field crew that helped install 20 broadband seismic stations along a magma-poor segment of the East-African Rift System, as part of DRIAR.

Dr. Ciardelli receives Outstanding Doctoral Thesis award

from the University of São Paulo for his doctoral thesis on the 3D mantle structure of South America images using full waveforom inversion. Caio earned his PhD in 2021.

NU-Geopaths program continued in 2022

...and concluded with an impressive project showcase. Mentees also improved coding and communication skills and participated in field trips and group meetings.

Deep earthquakes might represent dehydration events

Dr. Zhang's published work suggests that the 600-km deep 2013 M8.3 Okhotsk earthquake is a dehydration event, and that subducting slabs can carry water to the transition zone.
